Lucia & Nikolas
Lucia and Nikolas are both living in Brooklyn, New York. They have chosen to get married in Romania in a small village, not far away from Sibiu, where Lucia grew up. The wedding, a mix of traditional and modern elements, was held next to close friends and relatives. Most noteworthy, they travelled here from all over the world, including from China. The getting ready and religious ceremony took place in Porumbacu De Jos. Was followed shortly after by the reception in Avrig at the Brukenthal Palace.
Part 1 // Traditional Wedding in Transylvania
The guests had traditional Transylvanian clothing. The first half of the wedding was authentic with details that are very hard to put together. The rituals included “Pețitul and Târguiala”. Here, the groom goes to the bride’s parents to ask for her hand and bargain the wedding conditions. Then, the guests formed an “Alai” and walked together at the local church for the religious ceremony. A memorable scene was that were four carriages made a tour of the village. They stopped in front of Lucia’s grandparents’ home for another genuine traditional moment. One of the carriages contained also a precious cargo. The bride’s one hundred years old “Lada De Zestre” inherited from her grandma.

Part 2 // Modern Wedding in Transylvania
Here is the second part of the wedding that took place at the Brukenthal Palace in Avrig. This southern Transylvanian wedding venue is situated at the foot of the Carpathian’s mountains and offers a unique garden-monument. Due to the nice weather, the whole remaining daylight hours were spent outside.
Lucia arrived alongside her father, down the monument stairs. She was reunited with Nikolas in a symbolic moment that was fully lived and with a lot of emotions. The guests toasted champagne with the newly weds, wishing them a life full of joy and happiness.
